MUSIC 100: WHAT IS MELODY?

Writer's picture: DREYADREYA

Melody is the most identifiable element of a musical composition.

It can be a slow passage, a roaring crescendo, a fast piano run and everything in between.

Melodies are simple or intricate. Melodies can stand alone, or be together with other melodies.

The two basic elements of melody are pitch and rhythm.

Melody is a succession of pitches in rhythm.

The melody is usually the most memorable aspect of a song, the one you remember and are able to sing.

The melody of the song that I am working on now, Al Otro Lado del Amor/The Other Side of Love, is such a memorable melody that you can sing it with me.

Let's do it! Sing it with me!
